S4C is the Welsh language television channel. There is a variety of programmes on the channel and it is suitable for everyone, Welsh speakers, learners and the non-Welsh speakers. There is something for everyone on S4C, so you should look for something that you would enjoy.

35 Diwrnod

Ddrama ddirgelwch yw 35 Diwrnod. Mae pob cyfres yn dilyn un stori gyda phatrwm tebyg; mae’n cychwyn wrth iddynt ddarganfod corff marw. Ar ôl hynny, mae'r stori’n neidio nôl 35 diwrnod drwy gyflwyno'r sefyllfa a chymeriadau. Mae'r penodau sy'n dilyn yn symud ymlaen drwy amser cyn cyrraedd yn ôl i'r golygfeydd agoriadol er mwyn datgelu'r llofrudd. Mae bellach 3 cyfres o 35 Diwrnod gyda 8 pennod ym mhob cyfres. Mae pob cyfres wedi’i gosod mewn lleoliad gwahanol ac mae prif gymeriadau gwahanol ym mhob cyfres. Darlledwyd y gyfres gyntaf ym mis Mawrth ac Ebrill 2014 a dechreuwyd y drydedd gyfres ym mis Mawrth 2017.

35 dDwrnod

35 Diwrnod (35 Days) is a mystery drama. Each series follows one history with a similar pattern; it starts as they discover a dead body. After that, the story jumps back 35 days by introducing the situation and characters. The following chapters move through time before coming back to the opening sights to reveal the killer. There are now 3 series of 35 Days with 8 episodes in each series. Each series is set in different locations and there are different characters in each series. The first series was broadcast in March and April 2014 and the third series was started in March 2017.


Byw Celwydd

Drama wleidyddol yw Byw Celwydd. Mae’r gyfres yn dilyn Llywodraeth Cymru Gyfan ym Mae Caerdydd. Mae’n portreadu’r gwrthdaro rhwng gwleidyddion, ymgynghorwyr arbennig a newyddiadurwyr. Dysgir am eu bywydau proffesiynol ynghyd â’u bywydau personol. Yn y gyfres hon, mae cymblaid yng Nghymru rhwng tair plaid ffuglennol; y Ceidwadwyr Newydd, y Cenedlaetholwyr a’r Democratiaid. Mae Catherine Ayers, Matthew Gravelle, Ffion Dafis, Eiry Thomas a llawer mwy yn serennu yn y ddrama boblogaidd hon. Darlledwyd Byw Celwydd am y tro cyntaf ym mis Ionawr 2016. Mae bellach 3 cyfres o Byw Celwydd gyda 8 pennod ym mhob cyfres. Byw Celwydd oedd y rhaglen gyntaf i allu ffilmio yn y siambr yn y Senedd ym Mae Caerdydd; mae hyd yn oed James Band wedi’i wrthod. Mae’r ddrama wedi’i henwebu am ddwy Wobr BAFTA Cymru yn y gorffennol- y ddrama orau a’r actores orau (Catherine Ayers).

Byw Celwydd

Byw Celwydd (Living a Lie) is a political drama. The series follows an All Wales Government in Cardiff Bay. It portrays the conflict between politicians, special advisors and journalists. We learn about their professional lives as well as their personal lives. In this series, there is a coalition in Wales between three fictional parties; the New Conservatives, the Nationalists and the Democrats. Catherine Ayers, Matthew Gravelle, Ffion Dafis, Eiry Thomas and lots more star in this popular drama. Byw Celwydd was first broadcast in January 2016. There are now 3 series of Byw Celwydd with 8 episodes in every series. Byw Celwydd was the first programme to be able to film in the chamber in the Senedd in Cardiff Bay; even James Bond was refused. The drama has been nominated for two BAFTA Cymru awards in the past- the best drama and the best actress (Catherine Ayers).


Craith

Drama drosedd yw Craith. Lleolir y gyfres yn Eryri. Darlledir y fersiwn Gymraeg, Craith, ar S4C gyda fersiwn dwyieithog, Hidden, yn cael ei dangosyn ddiweddarach ar BBC One Wales. Mae Craith yn adrodd hanes ditectif DI Cadi John (Sian Reese-Williams) sydd wedi dychwelyd i’r ardal i ofalu am ei thad sy’n wael ei iechyd. Mae corff dynes ifanc yn cael ei ddarganfod mewn afon anghysbell ac wedyn, mae byd Cadi a’r byd o’i chwmpas yn newid am byth. Mae Rhodri Meilir a Gwyneth Kenworth hefyd yn ymddangos yn y ddrama fel rhai o’r prif gymeriadau yn ogystal â sawl mwy. Enillodd y gyfres y wobr BAFTA Cymru yn 2018 am Ffotograffiaeth a Goleuo: Ffuglen. Cyhoeddwyd ym mis Medi 2018 y bydd Craith yn dychwelyd am ail gyfres.

Craith

Craith (Wound) is a crime drama. The series is located in Snowdonia. The Welsh language version, Craith, is broadcast on S4C with a bilingual version, Hidden, being shown later on BBC One Wales. Craith tells the story of detective DI Cadi John (Sian Reese-Williams) who has returned to the area to care for her dad who is in ill health. A body of a young girl is discovered in a remote river and then, Cadi’s world and the world around her changes for ever. Rhodri Meilir and Gwyneth Kenworth also appear in the drama as the main characters as well as many more. The series won the BAFTA Cymru award in 2018 for Photography and Lighting: Fiction. It was announced in September 2018 that Craith will return for a second series.


Cyw

Bloc teledu i blant ar S4C yw Cyw. Fe'i lansiwyd ar 23 Mehefin 2008. Gellir gwylio Cyw ar S4C o Ddydd Llun i Ddydd Gwener rhwng 7yb a 1:30yp.Fe'i hanelir yn bennaf at blant yn rhwng 3 a 6 oed. Mae’n cynnwys rhaglenni a ddarlledwyd o’r blaen gan S4C yn slot Planed Plant Bach, er enghraifft Sam Tân, Bob y Bildar a Tomos a Ffrindiau, yn ogystal â rhaglenni newydd yn y Gymraeg fel Y Brodyr Coala a Ben a Mali a’u byd bach hud.

Cyw

Cyw (Chick) is a television block for children on S4C. It was launched on 23rdJune 2008. You can watch Cyw on S4C from Monday to Friday between 7am and 1:30pm. It is primarily aimed at children between 3 and 6 years old. It contains programmes which have been previously broadcast by S4C in the Planed Plant Bach (Little Children’s Planet) slot, for example Sam Tân (Fireman Sam), Bob y Bildar (Bob the Buildar) a Tomos a Ffrindiau (Thomas and Friends), as well as new programmes in the Welsh language such as Y Brodyr Coala (The Koala Brothers) and Ben a Mali a’u byd bach hud (Ben and Holly’s Little Magic Kingdom).


Heno

Rhaglen gylchgrawn ar S4C yw Heno. Darlledir bob diwrnod yr wythnos am 7yh. Chwaer-rhaglen Heno yw Prynhawn Da. Darlledwyd Heno am y tro cyntaf ar S4C ym mis Medi 1990. Yn 2002, newidiodd Heno i Wedi 6 ac i Wedi 7 yn 2003 ond newidiodd nôl i heno yn 2012. Dros y blynyddoedd, mae llawer o bobl wedi ymddangos ar y rhaglen fel prif gyflwynwyr yn y stiwdio a gohebwyr.  Angharad Mair a Siân Thomas yw rhai o’r cyflwynwyr rheolaidd.

Heno

Heno (Tonight) is a magazine programme on S4C. It is broadcast every weekday at 7pm. Heno’s sister programme is called Prynhawn Da (Good Afternoon). Heno was broadcast for the first time on S4C in September 1990. In 2002, Heno changed to Wedi 6 and to Wedi 7 in 2003 but it changed back to Heno in 2012. Over the years, lots of people have appeared on the programme as main presenters in the studio and reporters. Angharad Mair and Sian Thomas are a few of the regular presenters.


Jonathan

Sioe sgwrsio hwyliog sy’n seiliedig ar rygbi ar S4C yw Jonathan. Mae’r rhaglen yn cael ei chyflwyno gan Jonathan Davies, cyn chwaraewr rygbi dros Gymru. Mae Nigel Owens a Sarra Elgan hefyd yn ymddangos ym mhob pennod o’r rhaglen. Mae pobl enwog Cymraeg gwahanol yn ymddangos ar y sioe bob wythnos. Mae’r sioe fel arfer yn cael ei darlledu bob Nos Wener cyn gemau rygbi rhyngwladol.  Rydych yn gallu mynd I weld y sioe yn cael ei ffilmio yn Yr Egin, canolfan S4C yng Nghaerfyrddin.

Jonathan

Jonathan is a fun rugby-based chat show on S4C. The programme is presented by Jonathan Davies, a former rugby player for Wales. Nigel Owens and Sarra Elgan also appear in every episode of the programme. Different famous Welsh people appear on the show every week. The show is usually broadcast every Friday night before international rugby matches. You can go to see the show being filmed in Yr Egin, the S4C centre in Carmarthen.


Pobol y Cwm

Opera sebon Gymraeg yw Pobol y Cwm. Cynhyrchwyd Pobol y Cwm gan y BBC ers mis Hydref 1974. Yn gyntaf, darlledwyd Pobol y Cwm ar BBC Wales ond trosglwyddodd i S4C ym mis Hydref 1982 ar ôl i’r sianel gael ei sefydlu. Ar wahân i gemau rygbi arbennig, Pobol y Cwm yw’r rhaglen fwyaf poblogaidd ar S4C. Mae tua 380,000 o bobl yn gwylio’r rhaglen bob wythnos. Mae pum pennod newydd bob wythnos (Dydd Llun i Ddydd Gwener) ac mae omnibws bob Nos Sul. Y lleoliad ar gyfer y sioe yw pentref ffuglennol Cwmderi, lleolir yng Nghwm Gwendraeth go iawn - ardal sy'n gorwedd rhwng Caerfyrddin a Llanelli yn ne-orllewin Cymru. Ar hyn o bryd, mae’r straeon yn canolbwyntio ar dafarn y pentref, Y Deri, a'r busnesau bach a cyfagos. Mae’r ysgol a’r fferm leol yn ymddangos yn aml ar y sioe hefyd.

Pobol y Cwm

Pobol y Cwm (The People of the Valley) is a Welsh language soap opera. Pobol y Cwm has been produced since October 1974. Firstly, Pobol y Cwm was broadcast on BBC Wales but it transferred to S4C in October 1982 after the channel was established. Apart from special rugby games, Pobol y Cwm is the most popular programme on S4C. Approximately 380,000 people watch the programme every week. There are five new episodes every week (Monday to Friday) and there is an omnibus every Sunday night. The location for the show is the fictional village of Cwmberi, it is located in the real Gwendraeth Valley – an area which lies between Carmarthen and Llanelli in south-west Wales. At the moment, the storylines are centered on the village pub, Y Deri, and the surrounding small businesses and houses. The school and local farm appear often on the show too.


Rownd a Rownd

Dathlwyd y 1000fed bennod o’r rhaglen ar 14 Ionawr 2014. Hefyd, dathlwyd penblwydd y sioe yn 21 ym 2016 gyda rhaglen arbennig ar S4C a gyflwynir gan Tudur Owen. Ffilmir Rownd a Rownd ym Mhdorthaethwy, Ynys Môn. Mae’r rhaglen yn dilyn bywydau bob dydd y preswylwyr. Gwelir y perthynas a’r gwrthdaro rhyngddynt. Yr ardal ganolog o’r rhaglen yw’r rhes o siopau sy’n cynnwys siop, salon, caffi, bar a chwmni tacsi.

Rownd a Rownd

Rownd a Rownd (Round and Round) is a Welsh soap opera on S4C. Rownd a Rownd was broadcast for the first time in September 1995. There is a new episode every Tuesday and Thursday, but there is a break every summer. The 1000the pisode of the programme was celebrated on 14th January 2014. Also, the show’s 21st birthday was celebrated with a special programme presented by Tudur Owen. Rownd a Rownd is filmed in Menai Bridge, Anglesey. The programme follows the everyday life of the residents. We see the relationships and the conflicts between them. The central area of the programme is the row of shops which contains a newsagents, salon, caffe, bar and a taxi company.


Un Bore Mercher

Drama ddirgelwch ar S4C yw Un Bore Mercher. Mae fersiwn Saesneg, sef Keeping Faith, a ddarlledir ar BBC. Ffilmir y gyfres yn Nhalacharn, Caerfyrddin. Mae’r gyfres yn dilyn hanes cyfrieithwraig, gwraig a mam i dri o blant Faith Howells (Eve Myles) ar ôl diflaniad annisgwyl ei gŵr, Evan Howells (Bradley Freeguard), un bore Mercher. Fe'i gorfodir i ddychwelyd i'r gwaith yn fuan ar ôl ei habsenoldeb mamolaeth. Wrth ymchwilio i’w ddiflaniad, mae Faith yn dysgu mwy am y bobl o’i chwmpas ac mae hi’n dysgu llawer am Evan, sy’n gwneud iddi gwestiynau os yw hi’n adnabod ei gŵr o gwbl. Mae Mark Lewis Jones, Matthew Gravelle, Hannah Daniel, Eiry Thomas a mwy yn serennu yn y ddrama boblogaidd hon. Ni allai Eve Myles siarad Cymraeg cyn ffilmio Un Bore Mercher; dysgodd hi Gymraeg yn arbennig ar gyfer y gyfres. Ym mis Hydref 2018, enillodd y gyfres dair gwobr BAFTA Cymru; Actores (Eve Myles), Cerddoriaeth wreiddiol (Amy Wadge a Laurence Love Greed) ac Awdur (Matthew Hall).  Bydd yr ail gyfres o Un Bore Mercher yn dechrau ym mis Mai 2019.

Un Bore Mercher

Un Bore Mercher (One Wednesday Morning) is a mystery drama on S4C. There is an English version, Keeping Faith, which is broadcast on BBC. The series is filmed in Laugharne, Carmarthen. The series follows the story of a lawyer, wife and mum to three children Faith Howells (Eve Myles) after the unexpected disappearance of her husband, Evan Howells (Bradley Freeguard), one Wednesday morning. She is forced to return to work early after her maternity leave. Whilst investigating his disappearance, Faith learns more about the people around her and she learns lots about Evan, which makes her question if she knows her husband at all. Mark Lewis Jones, Matthew Gravelle, Hannah Daniel, Eiry Thomas and more star in this popular drama. Eve Myles couldn’t speak Welsh before filming Un Bore Mercher; she learnt Welsh especially for the series. In October 2018, the series won three BAFTA Cymru awards; Actress (Eve Myles), Original music (Amy Wadge and Laurence Love Greed) and Author (Matthew Hall). The second series of Un Bore Mercher will start in May 2019.


Y Gwyll

Drama deledu ditectif ar S4C yw Y Gwyll. Mae fersiwn Saesneg hefyd, sef Hinterland, a ddarlledwyd ar BBC. Lleolwyd y gyfres yng Ngheredigion ac yn Aberystwyth. Darlledwyd y gyfres Gymraeg ar S4C am y tro cyntaf yn Hydref 2013. Mae Richard Harrington, Mali Harries, Alex Harries, Hannah Daniel ac Aneirin Hughes yn ymddangos fel y prif gymeriadau yn y ddrama. Maen nhw’n gweithio er mwyn datrys llofruddiaethau ac mae DCI Tom Mathias (Richard Harrington) hefyd yn chwilio am adenilliad wrth ddatrys y llofruddiaethau. Mae wedi bod tair cyfres o Y Gwyll, gyda 25 o benodau. Mae’r ddrama wedi bod yn boblogaidd iawn dros y blynyddoedd.

Y Gwyll

Y Gwyll (The Dusk) is a detective television drama ar S4C. There is also an English language version, Hinterland, which is broadcast on BBC. The series was located in Ceredigion and in Aberystwyth. The Welsh language series was broadcast on S4C for the first time in the Autumn of 2013. Richard Harrington, Mali Harries, Alex Harries, Hannah Daniel and Aneirin Hughes appear as the main characters in the drama. They work in order to solve murders and DCI Tom Mathias (Richard Harrington) also searches for redemption whilst solving the murders. There have been three series of Y Gwyll, with 25 episodes. The drama has been very popular over the years.
