Mis Medi / September 2019

Yn dilyn rhyddhau un trac o'r sengl ddwbwl 'Hey! / Wine Time' mae'r band yn dychwelyd â ffrwydraid lliwgar a gwych. Dennodd 'Hey!' ymateb gadarnhaol iawn gyda blogiau fel Louder than War yn ysgrifennu amdani "Mae 'Hey!' yn dystiolaeth pellach nad oes ffiniau i angerdd a chreadigrwydd Adwaith"

Mae'r angerdd yma ag interplay melodig i'w glywed trwy 'Wine Time' i gyd. Tra bod 'Hey!' yn trafod anallu arweinwyr byd i daclo a threuchu'r argyfwng hinsawdd, mae 'Wine Time' yn trafod materion fwy personol.

Fel ddyweda'r prif leisydd Hollie Singer "Mae 'Wine Time' yn gân am gwympo mewn cariad â pherson hunan-ddinistriol iawn a sylweddoli ni allwch chi achub person os nad ydyn nhw'n barod i achub eu hunain."

Adwaith:
Hey! / Wine Time

adwaithband
Adwaith Hey- Wine Time

The mid summer radio release of ‘Hey!’, one side of Adwaith’s new double A side single, ‘Wine Time / Hey!’, reintroduced us, in brash technicolour, to this chameleon-like band which is back as we have never seen them before. The review in ‘Louder than War’ found that “‘Hey!’ is further evidence that when it comes to Adwaith there are no bounds to where their creativity and drive will take them.”

That drive and boundless melodic interplay is all over the urban punk/soul of ‘Wine Time’. Where ‘Hey!’ is a song dealing directly with the inability of global leaders to tackle the climate crisis, ‘Wine Time’ redirects the band’s gaze inwards towards the personal.

As guitarist and vocalist Holly Singer explains, “‘Wine Time’ is about falling for an extremely self destructive person and the realisation that no matter how hard you try you cannot save a person if they don't want to save themselves.”

Yn gymsgedd byrlymus o gords gwych sy'n symud o'r bygythiol, miniog, a ffrwydol i dristwch synfyfyriol mae sengl ddwbwl newydd Breichiau Hir yn destament i hyder cynyddol y band. Mae eu senglau diweddaraf yn profi bod Breichiau Hir yn torri cwys eu hun. Mae'r sengl ddwbwl 'Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri' yn perthyn i'w gilydd, maent yn dod o'r un man greadigol ac emosiynol fel esbonia'r prif leisydd Steffan Dafydd -

"Mae Saethu Tri yn esbonio'r ofn a'r edifarhad sy'n gallu dod drosta i, a sut yr ydw i byth rili'n siwr sut i ddelio ag e. Dwi ddim yn trio dramateiddio'r teimlad yn y gân, dwi'n cadw'r disgrifio'n blaen ac yn onest, yn cyfleu'r gwacter a'r diflastod sy'n dod law yn llaw a'r teimlad hwnnw. Mae'n drist ac yn dywyll"

"Mae Yn Dawel Bach yn ymateb uniongyrchol i'r ofn dwi'n siarad amdano yn Saethu Tri. Mae'n pwyntio allan y tonnau o banig sy'n gallu dy lethu ar unrhyw adeg. Gall y teimlad grasho ar dy ben di lle bynnag yr wyt ti. Dyw e ddim yn gofyn caniatad, ma fe jyst yn cyrraedd, heb wahoddiad a heb i neb ofyn amdano."

Mae'r emosiynau bregus yma i'w clywed trwy'r ddau trac ac yn cael eu disgrifio mewn modd hyfryd. Mae'r penillion llonydd yn denu'r gwrandawydd mewn i rhyw fyd ffug-ddiogel cyn i wal enfawr o sŵn ddod i ddinistrio'r byd hwnnw.

Breichiau Hir:
Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri

BreichiauHir
Breichiau Hir- Yn Dawel Bach

To move from the caustic, the abrasive, the aggressive to a pensive sadness that eventually brake’s into a cacophony of blistering chords with such ease is a testament to Breichiau Hir’s growing confidence. The last 12 month of releases has shown a band forever forging their own individual path. ‘Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri’ is their new Double A side single, it’s also the band's most melodic songs to date. These songs combine Breichiau Hir’s love for loud noise and soft sad moments. Emphatic sounds and melancholic atmosphere. ‘Yn Dawel Bach / Saethu Tri’ belong together, they come from the same emotional and creative place. As Steffan Dafydd the bands lyricist and vocalist explains:

“In Saethu Tri, I outline the dread or regret that can overcome me and how I’m never totally sure how to deal with it. I don’t dramatise it in the song, I kept it matter of factly and tried to convey the numbness and dullness that comes with it. It’s wistful and sombre.”

“Yn Dawel Bach is nearly a response to this dread I talk about in Saethu Tri. It basically points out that these waves of panic can overwhelm you whenever it wishes. It can come crashing at you wherever you are. It doesn’t ask permission, it just arrives, unannounced and uninvited.”

These frail emotional landscapes the songs move through are beautifully conveyed. Calm verses that ease the listener into a false sense of security and control before a wall of sound blissfully brakes into the chorus.

Mae'r ddeuawd ôl-bync Right Hand Left Hand yn ôl gyda'u halbym newydd sbon. Yn dilyn rhyddhau eu halbym a gafodd ei enwebu i'r Wobr Gerddoriaeth Gymreig, mae'r trydydd albym 'Zone Rouge' yn adrodd stori dynoliaeth - o'r tir o dan ein traed, yr awyr uwch ein pennau i'r bobl o'n cwmpas.

Mae'r blaned newydd wedi'i wneud o 11 trac. Pob un yn cyfeirio at leoliad ar y blaned lle ddigwyddodd rhywbeth gwael. Yn weithred yn erbyn y blaned, yn weithred gan y drwg yn erbyn cyd-ddyn a weithiau y ddau.

Adeiladwyd 'Chacauaco' yn Chille i lowyr nitrate, ond 14 mlynedd yn ddiweddarach dirywiodd y dref wrth i nitrate synthetig gymryd dros gan ladd y diwydiant. Degawdau yn ddiweddarach, defnyddiodd Pinochet y dref fel gwersyll crynhoi a'i amgylchynnu â mwyngloddiau sydd dal yno hyd heddiw. Mae dref erbyn hyn yn cael ei adfer gan ei drigolion. Mae'r trac yn cynnwys llais cyn brif leisydd Estrons - Taliesyn Kallstrom.

Wedi'i recordio â'i gynhyrchu gan Charlie Francis (Future of the Left, REM, Robyn Hitchock) yn Stiwdios Musicbox, Caerdydd mae Andrew Plain(dryms/gitars) a Rhodri Viney (gitars/llais/dryms) yn parhau i adeiladu a datblygu eu sŵn nodweddiadol: gitars wedi'u plethu a'u lwpio yn cael eu harwain gan sŵn drymiau pwerus.

Right Hand Left Hand:
Chacauco

RHLHmusic
Right Hand Left Hand- Zone Rouge

Post rock duo Right Hand Left Hand are back with a brand new album. Following on from their self-titled, Welsh Music Prize nominated second album, their third offering 'Zone Rouge' tells the story of humanity's contempt for the earth beneath us, the air above us and the people around us.

Our fractured planet lays the groundwork for the 11 new tracks. Each referring to a location on Earth where something bad has happened. An act of corruption against the planet, an act of evil against fellow humans and occasionally both.

‘Chacauco’ is a Chilean ghost town set up to house workers for a nitrate mine, but was abandoned 14 years later as synthetic nitrate became widespread and decimated the industry. Decades later, Pinochet used it as a concentration camp and surrounded it with landmines that are still there. It is in the process of being restored by its sole inhabitant. The track features former Estrons front-woman Taliesyn Kallstrom on vocals.

Recorded and produced by Charlie Francis (Future of the Left, REM, Robyn Hitchock) at Cardiff's Musicbox Studios, Andrew Plain (drums/guitars) and Rhodri Viney (guitars/vocals/drums) continue to build and develop their trademark sound: looped and layered guitars and driving powerful drums that are intercut with atmospheric ambience.

Rhyddheir albym newydd Silent Forum ar 6 Rhagfyr ar Recordiau Libertino. Heddiw, bydd eu sengl newydd 'Spin' ar gael ar bob platfform digidol ynghyd â fideo cerddoriaeth seicadelig newydd.

Yn y sengl newydd 'Spin' mae Silent Forum yn "tynnu blewyn o drwyn pobl sydd a diffyg persbectif ar fywyd" tra bod y gitars yn creu grŵfs ailadroddus tebyg i sŵn Gang of Four.

Does dim sŵn cyffredin i gerddoriaeth Silent Forum. Mae'n llawn gwead, yn trip lliwgar sy'n gwneud i'r band sefyll allan i gerddoriaeth tri cord ôl-bync. Mae Silent Forum wedi cael eu disgrifio fel "Talking Heads gydag agwedd" (Buzz Magazine), yn rhannu'r un soffistigeiddrwydd a'r agwedd chwareus â "sŵn pop blaengar XTC gyda tôn newydd o Squeeze" (Destroy/Exist). Neu fel mae Silent Forum yn hoffi dweud - mae eu caneuon yn "Pynci heb fod yn pync".

Mae themau 'Everything Solved At Once' yn annisgwyl. Yn gwyro i ffwrdd o dracs parti cynhyrfus, mae'r albym yn cyffwrdd â theimladau gweithwyr swyddfa selog, hiwmor tafod-yn-y-boch ac anthemau pync gwych.

Mae'r sengl newydd 'Spin' yn gân am ddiflasrwydd bywyd person sy'n gweithio mewn swyddfa. Tra bod 'Robot' yn gân o bersbectif gweithiwr sydd o dan straen ac yn gwaeth i'w ddesg. Mae'r geiriau llwm " feel a shortage of high pressure in my life/ I need the office chair/ I need spreadsheets I hold dear/ I love coffee, I hate beer” yn efelychu gwaith bandiau pync o'r 70au a cherddoriaeth indi cynnar y 90au.

Mae caneuon eraill Silent Forum fel "How I Faked the Moonlanding" - yn gân sy'n edrych nôl ar sîn ddawnsio Simple Minds' Berlin ac sydd wedi'i ysbrydoli gan fandiau newydd fel The Horrors, tra'n cael eu dylanwadu gan LCD Sound System a The Rapture. Ar ôl rhyddhau eu sengl gyntaf, chwaraewyd y gân sawl gwaith ar Radio BBC, sy'n eironig iawn wrth ystyried geiriau'r gân "Music’s not business, we’re destined to be a local band not on the local radio." Tra bod y gân 'Pop Act' yn gân pop chwe munud sydd â grŵf twfn a thywyll a gyfansoddwyd fel ymateb i DJ a ddwedodd bod y band yn rhy ddifrifol.

Silent Forum:
SPIN

Silent_Forum
Silent Forum- SPIN

Silent Forum announce the release of their debut album ‘Everything Solved At Once’, out on 6 December via Libertino Records, and today share the angular new single Spin, accompanied by a hazy psychedelic video.

Silent Forum describe Spin as a song “poking fun at the lack of perspective people who are dissatisfied with their lives often have”, to a backdrop of repetitive grooves and angular guitar reminiscent of Gang of Four.

Yet Silent Forum’s sound isn’t straightforward. It’s a textured, technicoloured trip that separates it from punk’s three chords or post-punk’s monochrome doom. Silent Forum have been described, very fittingly, as an “uncouth Talking Heads” (Buzz magazine), sharing a sophistication and playfulness of the latter with “the progressive pop sound of XTC and the new wave idiosyncrasy of Squeeze” (Destroy/Exist). Or as Silent Forum put it, many of their songs are “punky without being punk.”

Rejecting both geographical and musical pigeonholing, the themes of ‘Everything Solved At Once’ also veer towards the unexpected. Avoiding cliched break-up or party tracks, Silent Forum’s album is in part themed around a disgruntled office worker, with an awareness of the tongue-in-cheek humour in juxtaposing corporate life lyrics with jagged punk numbers.

The new single Spin is an observation of the boredom and misery of the average office worker, whilst Robot offers a character piece written from the perspective of a jaded, stressed and deskbound employee. The bleak lyrics, “I feel a shortage of high pressure in my life/ I need the office chair/ I need spreadsheets I hold dear/ I love coffee, I hate beer”, play out over a merging of 70’s punk and early noughties jangling indie of a Good Shoes variety.

Other songs are themed on Silent Forum’s experience of being in a band, such as How I Faked The Moon Landing, an exhilarating shape-shifting track reminiscent of Simple Minds’ Berlin dance scene inspired new-wave, or more recently The Horrors, Skying-era, whilst taking influence from LCD Sound System and The Rapture. Released as the album’s first single in 2018 it ironically picked up a tonne of BBC Radio play given its lyrics: “Music’s not business, we’re destined to be a local band not on the local radio.” Whilst album track Pop Act is a 6-minute pop song with a deep dark groove, written as a two-fingered response to a DJ who called the band too serious.

Mis Awst / August 2019

Llai na' 10 mis ers rhyddhau eu halbym uchelgeisiol a llwyddiannus 'Melyn', mae Adwaith yn ôl gyda sengl sy'n gosod sylfaeni y bennod nesaf cyffrous i'r band.

Ar ôl dwy flynedd prysur yn gigio a recordio 'Melyn', cafodd Adwaith ychydig o fisoedd tawel yn gweithio ar ddeunydd newydd. Mae'r sesiwns cyfansoddi ac ysgrifennu yma'n digwydd rhwng Llundain, Caerdydd ac amgylchedd heddylchlon Taliaris, Caerfyrddin. Y gân gyntaf i gael ei ryddhau ers y sesiwns ysgrifennu hynny yw - Hey!

Yn ôl y band: "Mae Hey! yn gân am bobl yn dewis anwybyddu ffeithiau sydd o'u blaenau. Mae arweinwyr rhyngwladol yn dewis peidio gweithredu yn erbyn newid hinsawdd - ni allwn nhw anwybyddu'r ffeithiau am llawer hirach!"

Yn defnyddio riff gitar y gallai fod wedi'i gymryd o 'Star' gan Belly neu 'Dig Me Out' gan Sleater-Kinney mae'r gân yn llwyddo i adlewyrchu'r brys a'r neges amgylcheddol. Wedi'i gynhyrchu gan Steffan Pringle - mae'r sengl yma'n siwtio hyder newydd a miniog Adwaith.

Adwaith:
Hey!

Adwaith Hey!

Less than 10 months on from the release of their successful groundbreaking debut album ‘Melyn', Adwaith are back with a song that firmly sets the foundations for the next exciting chapter. After what was an intense two years of non stop giging and recording leading up to the release of Melin, Adwaith relished the quiet months away they had at the beginning of this year to work on new material. These writing sessions took place between London, Cardiff and the rural tranquility of Taliaris, Carmarthenshire. The first fruit of those productive sessions, sessions, where Adwaith had space to explore and flesh out their sound, is ‘Hey!’.

According to the band: ”Hey! is a song about people ignoring obvious facts that are right in front of them. Global leaders are not acting upon climate change and they can't ignore it for much longer!!“

’Hey!’s musical urgancy reflects the lyrical message with a riff that could have easily have tumbled from Belly’s ‘Star’ or Sleater-Kinney’s ‘Dig Me Out’. This new spiky confidence amplified by the driving production of Steffan Pringle suites them very well.

Caiff “Myfanwy” ei chyfri’ fel un o alawon harddaf a thristaf Cymru – mae trefniant cyfoes Casi Wyn yn taenu golau newydd ar draddodiadau hynafol – gan gyflwyno elfennau corawl a cherddorfaol a’u plethu’n gynnil gyda emosiwn ei llais.

Casi & The Blind Harpist:
Myfanwy

Casi & The Blind Harpist Myfanwy

“Myfanwy” – once referred to as “the greatest love song of all time” is one of Wales ‘ most iconic melodies. Casi’s soulful arrangement sheds new light on an old hymn that sings of longing and love - teaming up with one of Wales’ most notable female voice choirs, Côr Seiriol – her voice offers a delicate sadness that’s both sobering and inspiring. Casi is a singer of Welsh and Irish inheritance whose remarkable voice moves effortlessly from the melancholic to the uplifting. Her musical world is both a lonely cry of the soul and an orchestral wall of sound; electric thuds and blast beats intermingle with angelic voices and Celtic mysticism.

Fused in contemporary electronic production but evoking old tales and the pristine simplicity of early Celtic nature poetry, her eclectic voice and dynamic music embody the yearning for a sense of belonging in a modern world.

Yn dilyn eu henwebiad yn y Wobr Gymreig y Flwyddyn 2017 am eu halbym cyntaf ‘Life in Analogue’ mae Cotton Wolf yn ôl gyda’u halbym newydd ‘Ofni’ fydd allan 4 Hydref ar finyl ac yn ddigidol.

Wedi’i ysgrifennu mewn cyfnod o ansefydlogrwydd mae deunydd tywyll yr albym yn plethu paranoia a gobeithio ychydig o obaith. Mae’r trac newydd gan y ddeuawd o Gaerdydd yn arddangos cynhyrchiad cryf gyda thempo cyflymach a synau electronig pur yn cyd-fynd â syniadau haniaethol, hypnotig a melodig. Tra bod rhan fwyaf yr albym yn offerynnol, mae'r trac 'Ofni' yn cynnwys prif leisydd Adwaith - Hollie Singer.

Ar ôl cyd-weithio ar sawl prosiect cerddorol gyda'i gilydd, daeth Llion Robertson a Seb Goldfinch yn ffrindiau ar ôl darganfod bod y ddau ohonynt yn dwlu ar gerddoriaeth electronig ac wrth eu bodd â cherddoriaeth ffilm a theledu. Mae'r ddeuawd yn bwriadu creu cerddoriaeth organig, clyfar a soundscapes sy'n gwneud i chi feddwl yn ddwys a dawnsio! Mae cefndir Seb mewn cyfansoddi a threfnu cerddoriaeth clasurol (Cerddorfa Cenedlaethol BBC Cymru, The Gentle Good) ac mae'r cyfuniad o waith cymysgu a chynhyrchu Llion (Super Furry Animals, Gruff Rhys, Aldous Harding a James Yull) yn arwain at ffordd unigryw a diddorol at gyfansoddi ac ysgrifennu.

Cotton Wolf:

Cotton Wold Ofni

Following on from their 2017 'Welsh Music Prize' nominated debut 'Life in Analogue' Cotton Wolf are back with a brand new album. 'Ofni' (Welsh for Fear) will be released on 4 October on vinyl and digital formats.

Set against a thematic backdrop of social uncertainty, the album's arker material is simultaneously imbued with anxious paranoia and hopeful positvity. The new tracks from the Cardiff duo showcase a bolder production with faster tempos and pruer electronic sounds, alongside hypnotic, abstract and melodic ideas inherent to their previous release. Whilst the bulk of the album is instrumental, the title track features an ethereal vocal contribution by Adwaith's Hollie Singer.

Brought together through various musical projects, Llion Roebrtson and Seb Goldfinch discobered their mutual apprectiation of electronic music, as well as their love of film and TV soundtracks. Through Cotton Wolf, the pair aim to create organic, intelligent soundcapes that provoke equal measures of thoghtifulness and daceability. Seb's background in classical copmosition and arranging (BBC National Orchestra of Wales / The Gentle Good) combined with Llion's work mixing and producing (Super Furry Animals, Gruff Rhys, Aldous Harding, James Yiull) leads to an expansive, unique approach to songwriting and the wider collaborative process.

Mae Fleur De Lys yn ôl gyda sengl newydd sydd eisioes wedi plesio torfeydd ar draws Cymru yn eu gigs haf hyd yn hyn. Daw’r gân o albym newydd, sydd wedi’i hysgrifennu, a’i recordio ac yn y broses o gael ei gymysgu a’i berffeithio gan y cynhyrchydd Rich James Roberts.

Dywedodd y blogiwr Barry Gruff y canlynol am Sbectol - “it’s an infectious, up-tempo and strident slice of anthemic indie-rock, fueled by a surging energy and powerful, electrifying riffs. A sublime and scintillating slice of guitar wielding sorcery”.

Fleur De Lys are back with a new single which they've been playing live to audiences all over Wales over the Summer. This single and an upcoming album which is currently being mixed with producer Rich James Roberts.

A sublime and scintillating slice of guitar wielding sorcery."

Mae Pasta Hull yn ôl gyda'u hail albym 'Chawn Beanz' fydd allan yn ddigidol ar 2 Awst ar Recordiau Noddfa.

Albym 13 trac sydd â - yng ngeiriau'r band "gymaint o tiwns a sy' 'na o beans. Mewn geiria erill- mae o'n gorlenwi efo beans". Trac ar ôl trac sy'n dangos gallu cerddorol y band o Gaernarfon i greu'r adwaith unigryw o gerddoraieth funk, seicadelic, stoner-roc a reggae. Mae eu sengl newydd 'Boneddigion & Boneddigesau' yn snapshot o stafell recordio y brodyr Llyr Jones ac Owain Jones, llawn curiadau lleddfol y bongos, riffs hyfryd y piano, synau fuzzy y gitar a lleisiau o bron pob aelod y band yn chwerthin, canu, rapio a siarad.

Yn debyg i'r albym ddwethaf 'Achw Met', cawn gyfanwaith arbennig o dracs di-ddiwedd a geiriau doniol, chwareus a thafod yn y boch - rhywbeth sydd erbyn hyn yn nodweddiadol i unrhywbeth y mae'r pumawd yn rhyddhau drwy Recordiau Noddfa. O 'Death Caeath-Row' sy'n cynnwys riff gitar fydd yn llwyddo i aros yn eich pen tan berfeddion y bore i 'Smocio yn yr Haul' sy'n cymryd dylanwadau amlwg gan Super Furry Animals a The Bryan Jonestown Massacre mae'r albym yma'n un sydd am eich llorio â chreadigrwydd cerddorol.

Pasta Hull:

Pasta Hull Boneddigion & Boniddegesau

Pasta Hull are back with their second album 'Chawn Beanz' which will be digitally released on 2 August on Noddfa Records.

A 13 track heavy album which - as the bands says "as many tunes as there are of beans. In other words - it is overflowing with beans". Track after track which showcases the Caernarfon based band's musical ability to create the unique collision of funk, rock, pscyhadelia, stoner-rock and reggae. Their new single 'Boneddigion & Boneddigesau' is a snapshot of brothers Llyr Jones and Owain Jones' recording room, full of bongo pulses, lovely piano riffs, fuzzy guitars and snipits of almost every member of the band laughing, singing, rapping or talking.

Similar to their last album 'Achw Met' we see a special collection of endless and never ending tracks with witty, playful and clever lyrics - something that is now typical of anything the band release through Noddfa Records. From 'Death Caeath-Row' which includes a guitar riff that will stick in you head until the early hours of the morning to 'Smocio yn yr Haul' which is obviously influenced by bands like Super Furry Animals and The Bryan Jonestown Massacre, this album will bombard you with musical creativity.

Mis Gorffenaf / July 2019

12 mlynedd ers rhyddhau Moelyci – albwm a ystyrir ymysg clasuron y Gymraeg – mae Steve Eaves yn ei ôl gydag albwm newydd sbon; Y dal yn dynn, y tynnu’n rhydd.

Casgliad o ganeuon unigol yw’r albwm a phob cân wedi ei hysgogi gan ryw syniad gwahanol neu deimlad gwahanol. Yng ngeiriau Steve: ‘Dim ond ar ôl cyfansoddi hyn a hyn o ganeuon unigol bydda i’n meddwl wedyn pa rai sydd rywsut yn ‘perthyn efo’i gilydd’ o ran eu themâu, eu naws a’r teimlad sydd ynddyn nhw, a ballu. A dyna sut mae cynnwys pob albwm yn dŵad yn amlwg imi. Felly fydda i byth yn mynd ati i ‘greu albwm’ – dim ond cyfansoddi caneuon. Mae’r broses o roi albwm at ei gilydd yn dŵad wedyn.’

Adnabyddir Steve Eaves fel un o fawrion y sin gerddoriaeth Gymraeg ac mae wedi hen sefydlu ei hun fel un sydd â dawn ddigamsyniol o drin geiriau a’u priodi’n berffaith gyda cherddoriaeth, a gwelir hynny ar waith eto yn yr albwm hwn. Fel yr awgryma’r teitl, mae yma ddal yn dynn ar brofiadau, emosiynau a theimladau ond caiff y cwbl eu tynnu’n rhydd a’u datgymalu hefyd. Daw’r teitl o’r gân ‘Ffair Wagedd’, sy’n ymddangos ar yr albwm. Fel yr esbonia Steve wrth egluro ei arwyddocâd:

‘Beth bynnag mae’r teitl yn ei olygu i chi, wel dyna ydi’r ystyr. Byddwch chi’n gwybod yn well na mi be’ mae’r teitl yn ei olygu ar ôl ichi wrando ar y caneuon. Chi sy’n agor y drws wrth wrando, toes gennyf i ddim goriad iddo. Ond wrth gwrs mae gen i fy syniadau fy hun amdano hefyd. Dros y blynyddoedd dwi wedi sylwi ar un patrwm arbennig mewn bywyd. Yn ein calonnau ’dan ni i gyd am afael yn dynn yn y pethau ’dan ni’n eu caru – partner, cariad, babi, ffrind, ci, mam a thad, iechyd da, rhyw dynerwch, rhyw deimlad braf, dyddiau da llawn hwyl, y nosau tawel arbennig, llawn sêr. A ’dan ni i gyd wedi teimlo’r golled yn hegar iawn pan mae’r pethau ’ma yn darfod, neu’n tynnu’n rhydd, neu’n cael eu tynnu’n rhydd oddi wrthon ni, neu’n gollwng eu gafael arnon ni. Mae pawb yn gwybod am hyn – bydd pawb yn ei brofi yn hwyr neu’n hwyrach – tydi o ddim yn beth cymhleth. Ond dwi’n dallt ac yn teimlo y patrwm yma cymaint yn fwy ar ôl ei brofi llawer o weithiau. Dwi’n meddwl bod nifer o’r caneuon wedi codi o’r profiadau hynny. Ond mae’n ddigon posibl bydd pobl eraill yn dallt y caneuon a’r teitl yn llawer gwell na mi, fel dwi di profi cymaint o weithiau o’r blaen.’

Steve Eaves:
Fel Ces i Ngeni i'w Wneud

Steve Eaves Fel Ces i Ngeni i'w Wneud

12 years since the release of Moelyci - an album which is considered a Welsh classic – Steve Eaves, and his band ‘Rhai Pobl’ (Some People), are back with a new album Y dal yn dynn, y tynnu’n rhydd (The tight hold, the pull free)

The album is a collection of individual songs all inspired by various particular ideas or feelings. In Steve’s own words: “Only after composing numerous individual songs do I think which ones ‘relate’ to one another in terms of themes, nuance, and the feelings embedded in them. And that is how the content of each album becomes clear to me. I never set out to ‘create an album’ – only to compose songs. The compilation process comes after.”

Steve is well known as one of the stalwarts of the Welsh music scene and has long established himself as a composer with an unquestionable talent to mould and marry lyrics perfectly to memorable tunes, and this album, once again, showcases this talent. As the title suggests, there is a tight hold on experiences, emotions and feelings, but they can also pull free and be dismembered. The title is derived from one of the songs on the album, ‘Ffair Wagedd’ (The Vainness Fair). As Steve explains in his analysis of the meaning of the title:

“What ever the title means to you, well that’s the meaning. You will know better than me what the title means after you’ve listened to the songs. You unlock the door by listening – I don’t have a key. Of course, I have my own theories as well. Over the years I have noticed one particular pattern in life. In our hearts, we all hold tight onto the things we love – partners, love, babies, friends, mothers and fathers, dogs, good health, a tenderness, warm feelings, fun filled days, peaceful starry nights. And we have all felt the wrenching loss when these are lost, or pull free, or are pulled free from us, or release their hold on us. We all know this – and are bound to experience it sooner or later – it’s not complicated. But I understand and feel the pattern so much more after experiencing it many times. I think that many of the songs have arisen from these experiences, but it’s possible that others will understand the songs and title much better than me, as I have experienced before.”

Braint yw cyhoeddi y bydd Label Recordiau I KA CHING yn ail-ryddhau EP chwedlonol Y Cyrff - ‘Yr Atgyfodi’ ar gyfer Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Sir Conwy 2019, a hynny union ddeg mlynedd ar hugain ers ei rhyddhau am y tro cyntaf yn Eisteddfod Llanrwst 1989.

Eisteddfod 1989, ac mae Y Cyrff yn crwydro’r maes yn dosbarthu copïau o’u record feinyl 12 modfedd ‘Yr Atgyfodi’. Roedd hi’n hollol amlwg mai yn eu tref enedigol y dylid ei rhyddhau ac yn y deng mlynedd ar hugain sydd wedi gwibio heibio, mae’r caneuon yr un mor berthnasol ac yn sgrechian i gael eu hail-ryddhau ar feinyl eto ar gyfer Eisteddfod 2019. Meddai Mark Roberts (Y Cyrff, Catatonia, Y Ffyrc, Sherbert Antlers, MR), prif-leisydd y band; “Yn fy marn i dyma uchafbwynt recordio’r band - pum cân sy’n llwyddo i drosglwyddo emosiwn amrwd y set byw ar feinyl”.

Yn sicr, does dim angen cyflwyniad i un o’r traciau’n enwedig - ‘Cymru, Lloegr a Llanrwst’ - cân sy’n gorlifo o hyder ac sy’n hudo’r gwrandawr i gyd-ganu’r gytgan enwog. Ac yna ceir pedwar trac anfarwol arall, ‘Y Boddi’, ‘Cofia Fi’n Ddiolchgar’, ‘Cerdda Efo Fi Mewn Distawrwydd’ ac ‘Weithiau/Anadl’. “Y gwir amdani yw bod pob un o’r caneuon ar y record yn dystiolaeth o’r angerdd a’r emosiwn oedd Y Cyrff yn gallu ei gyfleu yn eu perfformiadau byw gan gyrraedd uchafbwynt gyda’r gân olaf ‘Weithiau/Anadl’.” meddai Toni Schiavone. “Nid casgliad syml o ganeuon roc sydd gyda ni fama, ond mynegiant o ddwyster emosiynol dwfn.”

Ym mhob un o’r caneuon mae ‘na sefyllfaoedd, delweddau a geiriau grymus o gofiadwy. Dyma EP sy’n parhau i fod yn berthnasol ac mae ei hail-gyflwyno i’r byd yn ffordd o ddathlu cyfraniad amhrisiadwy Y Cyrff i sîn gerddorol Cymru a thu hwnt. Dyma atgyfodiad ‘Yr Atgyfodi’.

Yr Atgyfodi

Y Cyrff Yr Atgyfodi

I Ka Ching Records are proud to announce the reissue on vinyl of the legendary EP from Y Cyrff - ‘Yr Atgyfodi’ - which will be released at the Eisteddfod Gendlaethol Sir Conwy 2019, exactly 30 years since the first issue was released at the Llanrwst Eisteddfod in 1989.

It’s at The Eisteddfod in 1989 that Y Cyrff were wandering around the site selling copies of the record on vinyl. It was completey natural to launch the original record in their birth town and 30 years later the songs still stand up in their own right and deserve to be celebrated again as the Eisteddfod returns to the area in 2019. Mark Roberts ( Y Cyrff, Catatonia, Y Ffyrc, Sherbert Antlers, Mr ) , the lead singer from the band says “In my opinion this record is the highlight of Y Cyrff's output - five songs which manage to capture the raw energy of our live shows”.

There is no need for an introduction to the tracks, especially ‘Cymru, Lloegr a Llanrwst’. The remaining four tracks on the EP are equally as breathtaking - ‘Y Boddi’, ‘Cofia Fi’n Ddiolchgar’, ‘Cerdda Efo Fi Mewn Distawrwydd’ and ‘Weithiau/Anadlu’. Toni Schiavone says “The truth is that all the songs on the record capture the emotion and energy that Y Cyrff created at live shows, encapsulated by the last song on the record ‘Weithiau/Anadl’. This isn’t a straight forward collection of rock songs, but an expression of a deep emotional energy unique to the band”.

This EP continues to be relevant to this day, and to be given the opportunity to reissue and reintroduce it to the world on vinyl is a celebration of Y Cyrff’s priceless contribution to the Welsh language music scene and beyond.
