Mis Awst / August 2019

Llai na' 10 mis ers rhyddhau eu halbym uchelgeisiol a llwyddiannus 'Melyn', mae Adwaith yn ôl gyda sengl sy'n gosod sylfaeni y bennod nesaf cyffrous i'r band.

Ar ôl dwy flynedd prysur yn gigio a recordio 'Melyn', cafodd Adwaith ychydig o fisoedd tawel yn gweithio ar ddeunydd newydd. Mae'r sesiwns cyfansoddi ac ysgrifennu yma'n digwydd rhwng Llundain, Caerdydd ac amgylchedd heddylchlon Taliaris, Caerfyrddin. Y gân gyntaf i gael ei ryddhau ers y sesiwns ysgrifennu hynny yw - Hey!

Yn ôl y band: "Mae Hey! yn gân am bobl yn dewis anwybyddu ffeithiau sydd o'u blaenau. Mae arweinwyr rhyngwladol yn dewis peidio gweithredu yn erbyn newid hinsawdd - ni allwn nhw anwybyddu'r ffeithiau am llawer hirach!"

Yn defnyddio riff gitar y gallai fod wedi'i gymryd o 'Star' gan Belly neu 'Dig Me Out' gan Sleater-Kinney mae'r gân yn llwyddo i adlewyrchu'r brys a'r neges amgylcheddol. Wedi'i gynhyrchu gan Steffan Pringle - mae'r sengl yma'n siwtio hyder newydd a miniog Adwaith.

Adwaith:
Hey!

Adwaith Hey!

Less than 10 months on from the release of their successful and ambitious debut album ‘Melyn', Adwaith are back with a song that firmly sets the foundations for the next exciting chapter.

Less than 10 months on from the release of their successful groundbreaking debut album ‘Melyn', Adwaith are back with a song that firmly sets the foundations for the next exciting chapter. After what was an intense two years of non stop giging and recording leading up to the release of Melin, Adwaith relished the quiet months away they had at the beginning of this year to work on new material. These writing sessions took place between London, Cardiff and the rural tranquility of Taliaris, Carmarthenshire. The first fruit of those productive sessions, sessions, where Adwaith had space to explore and flesh out their sound, is ‘Hey!’.

According to the band: ”Hey! is a song about people ignoring obvious facts that are right in front of them. Global leaders are not acting upon climate change and they can't ignore it for much longer!!“

’Hey!’s musical urgancy reflects the lyrical message with a riff that could have easily have tumbled from Belly’s ‘Star’ or Sleater-Kinney’s ‘Dig Me Out’. This new spiky confidence amplified by the driving production of Steffan Pringle suites them very well.

Caiff “Myfanwy” ei chyfri’ fel un o alawon harddaf a thristaf Cymru – mae trefniant cyfoes Casi Wyn yn taenu golau newydd ar draddodiadau hynafol – gan gyflwyno elfennau corawl a cherddorfaol a’u plethu’n gynnil gyda emosiwn ei llais.

Casi & The Blind Harpist:
Myfanwy

Casi & The Blind Harpist Myfanwy

“Myfanwy” – once referred to as “the greatest love song of all time” is one of Wales ‘ most iconic melodies. Casi’s soulful arrangement sheds new light on an old hymn that sings of longing and love - teaming up with one of Wales’ most notable female voice choirs, Côr Seiriol – her voice offers a delicate sadness that’s both sobering and inspiring. Casi is a singer of Welsh and Irish inheritance whose remarkable voice moves effortlessly from the melancholic to the uplifting. Her musical world is both a lonely cry of the soul and an orchestral wall of sound; electric thuds and blast beats intermingle with angelic voices and Celtic mysticism.

Fused in contemporary electronic production but evoking old tales and the pristine simplicity of early Celtic nature poetry, her eclectic voice and dynamic music embody the yearning for a sense of belonging in a modern world.

Yn dilyn eu henwebiad yn y Wobr Gymreig y Flwyddyn 2017 am eu halbym cyntaf ‘Life in Analogue’ mae Cotton Wolf yn ôl gyda’u halbym newydd ‘Ofni’ fydd allan 4 Hydref ar finyl ac yn ddigidol.

Wedi’i ysgrifennu mewn cyfnod o ansefydlogrwydd mae deunydd tywyll yr albym yn plethu paranoia a gobeithio ychydig o obaith. Mae’r trac newydd gan y ddeuawd o Gaerdydd yn arddangos cynhyrchiad cryf gyda thempo cyflymach a synau electronig pur yn cyd-fynd â syniadau haniaethol, hypnotig a melodig. Tra bod rhan fwyaf yr albym yn offerynnol, mae'r trac 'Ofni' yn cynnwys prif leisydd Adwaith - Hollie Singer.

Ar ôl cyd-weithio ar sawl prosiect cerddorol gyda'i gilydd, daeth Llion Robertson a Seb Goldfinch yn ffrindiau ar ôl darganfod bod y ddau ohonynt yn dwlu ar gerddoriaeth electronig ac wrth eu bodd â cherddoriaeth ffilm a theledu. Mae'r ddeuawd yn bwriadu creu cerddoriaeth organig, clyfar a soundscapes sy'n gwneud i chi feddwl yn ddwys a dawnsio! Mae cefndir Seb mewn cyfansoddi a threfnu cerddoriaeth clasurol (Cerddorfa Cenedlaethol BBC Cymru, The Gentle Good) ac mae'r cyfuniad o waith cymysgu a chynhyrchu Llion (Super Furry Animals, Gruff Rhys, Aldous Harding a James Yull) yn arwain at ffordd unigryw a diddorol at gyfansoddi ac ysgrifennu.

Cotton Wolf:

Cotton Wold Ofni

Following on from their 2017 'Welsh Music Prize' nominated debut 'Life in Analogue' Cotton Wolf are back with a brand new album. 'Ofni' (Welsh for Fear) will be released on 4 October on vinyl and digital formats.

Set against a thematic backdrop of social uncertainty, the album's arker material is simultaneously imbued with anxious paranoia and hopeful positvity. The new tracks from the Cardiff duo showcase a bolder production with faster tempos and pruer electronic sounds, alongside hypnotic, abstract and melodic ideas inherent to their previous release. Whilst the bulk of the album is instrumental, the title track features an ethereal vocal contribution by Adwaith's Hollie Singer.

Brought together through various musical projects, Llion Roebrtson and Seb Goldfinch discobered their mutual apprectiation of electronic music, as well as their love of film and TV soundtracks. Through Cotton Wolf, the pair aim to create organic, intelligent soundcapes that provoke equal measures of thoghtifulness and daceability. Seb's background in classical copmosition and arranging (BBC National Orchestra of Wales / The Gentle Good) combined with Llion's work mixing and producing (Super Furry Animals, Gruff Rhys, Aldous Harding, James Yiull) leads to an expansive, unique approach to songwriting and the wider collaborative process.

Mae Fleur De Lys yn ôl gyda sengl newydd sydd eisioes wedi plesio torfeydd ar draws Cymru yn eu gigs haf hyd yn hyn. Daw’r gân o albym newydd, sydd wedi’i hysgrifennu, a’i recordio ac yn y broses o gael ei gymysgu a’i berffeithio gan y cynhyrchydd Rich James Roberts.

Mae ‘Dawnsia’ yn gân pop roc sy’n parhau traddodiad Fleur De Lys o ryddhau traciau ewfforig a chyffrous, sydd wedi sicrhau lle’r band fel un o fandiau mwyaf poblogaidd Cymru.

I gyd-fynd a’u perfformiad ar Lwyfan y Maes, Eisteddfod Llanrwst 2019, bydd y band yn rhyddhau fideo arbennig cafodd eu ffilmio yn Tafwyl eleni gan Ffotonant (prosiect newydd cyn-ddrymiwr Sibrydion a Bob, Dafydd Nant). Ewch draw i wefan Y Selar ar y 4ydd o Awst am eich cyfle cyntaf i weld y fideo.

Hon yw’r 3ydd sengl i’w ryddhau ar label Côsh, yn dilyn ‘Sbectol’ a ‘Ti’n Gwbod Hynny’ sydd wedi eu ffrydio dros 40,000 o weithiau rhyngddynt yn barod. Dywedodd y blogiwr Barry Gruff y canlynol am Sbectol - “it’s an infectious, up-tempo and strident slice of anthemic indie-rock, fueled by a surging energy and powerful, electrifying riffs. A sublime and scintillating slice of guitar wielding sorcery”.

Fleur de Lys:

Fleur de Lys Dawnsia

Fleur De Lys are back with a new single which they've been playing live to audiences all over Wales over the Summer. This single and an upcoming album which is currently being mixed with producer Rich James Roberts.

‘Dawnsia’ is a classic Fleur De Lys pop/rock anthem, following on from recent singles which has made them one of the most popular bands in Wales.

To coincide with their performance on the Maes Stage at the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst 2019 the band will also be premiering a video from footage of their triumphant Tafwyl set earlier in the summer. The video will be premiered on Y Selars website from August 4th.

This is the third single the band have released with Recordiau Côsh following on from ’Sbectol’ and ’Ti’n Gwbod Hynny’ which have been streamed over 40000 times. The blogger Barry Gruff says of previous single ’Sbectol’ - “it’s an infectious, up-tempo and strident slice of anthemic indie-rock, fueled by a surging energy and powerful, electrifying riffs. A sublime and scintillating slice of guitar wielding sorcery."

Mae Pasta Hull yn ôl gyda'u hail albym 'Chawn Beanz' fydd allan yn ddigidol ar 2 Awst ar Recordiau Noddfa.

Albym 13 trac sydd â - yng ngeiriau'r band "gymaint o tiwns a sy' 'na o beans. Mewn geiria erill- mae o'n gorlenwi efo beans". Trac ar ôl trac sy'n dangos gallu cerddorol y band o Gaernarfon i greu'r adwaith unigryw o gerddoraieth funk, seicadelic, stoner-roc a reggae. Mae eu sengl newydd 'Boneddigion & Boneddigesau' yn snapshot o stafell recordio y brodyr Llyr Jones ac Owain Jones, llawn curiadau lleddfol y bongos, riffs hyfryd y piano, synau fuzzy y gitar a lleisiau o bron pob aelod y band yn chwerthin, canu, rapio a siarad.

Yn debyg i'r albym ddwethaf 'Achw Met', cawn gyfanwaith arbennig o dracs di-ddiwedd a geiriau doniol, chwareus a thafod yn y boch - rhywbeth sydd erbyn hyn yn nodweddiadol i unrhywbeth y mae'r pumawd yn rhyddhau drwy Recordiau Noddfa. O 'Death Caeath-Row' sy'n cynnwys riff gitar fydd yn llwyddo i aros yn eich pen tan berfeddion y bore i 'Smocio yn yr Haul' sy'n cymryd dylanwadau amlwg gan Super Furry Animals a The Bryan Jonestown Massacre mae'r albym yma'n un sydd am eich llorio â chreadigrwydd cerddorol.

Pasta Hull:
Boneddigion & Boniddegesau

Pasta Hull Boneddigion & Boniddegesau

Pasta Hull are back with their second album 'Chawn Beanz' which will be digitally released on 2 August on Noddfa Records.

A 13 track heavy album which - as the bands says "as many tunes as there are of beans. In other words - it is overflowing with beans". Track after track which showcases the Caernarfon based band's musical ability to create the unique collision of funk, rock, pscyhadelia, stoner-rock and reggae. Their new single 'Boneddigion & Boneddigesau' is a snapshot of brothers Llyr Jones and Owain Jones' recording room, full of bongo pulses, lovely piano riffs, fuzzy guitars and snipits of almost every member of the band laughing, singing, rapping or talking.

Similar to their last album 'Achw Met' we see a special collection of endless and never ending tracks with witty, playful and clever lyrics - something that is now typical of anything the band release through Noddfa Records. From 'Death Caeath-Row' which includes a guitar riff that will stick in you head until the early hours of the morning to 'Smocio yn yr Haul' which is obviously influenced by bands like Super Furry Animals and The Bryan Jonestown Massacre, this album will bombard you with musical creativity.

Mis Gorffenaf / July 2019

12 mlynedd ers rhyddhau Moelyci – albwm a ystyrir ymysg clasuron y Gymraeg – mae Steve Eaves yn ei ôl gydag albwm newydd sbon; Y dal yn dynn, y tynnu’n rhydd.

Casgliad o ganeuon unigol yw’r albwm a phob cân wedi ei hysgogi gan ryw syniad gwahanol neu deimlad gwahanol. Yng ngeiriau Steve: ‘Dim ond ar ôl cyfansoddi hyn a hyn o ganeuon unigol bydda i’n meddwl wedyn pa rai sydd rywsut yn ‘perthyn efo’i gilydd’ o ran eu themâu, eu naws a’r teimlad sydd ynddyn nhw, a ballu. A dyna sut mae cynnwys pob albwm yn dŵad yn amlwg imi. Felly fydda i byth yn mynd ati i ‘greu albwm’ – dim ond cyfansoddi caneuon. Mae’r broses o roi albwm at ei gilydd yn dŵad wedyn.’

Adnabyddir Steve Eaves fel un o fawrion y sin gerddoriaeth Gymraeg ac mae wedi hen sefydlu ei hun fel un sydd â dawn ddigamsyniol o drin geiriau a’u priodi’n berffaith gyda cherddoriaeth, a gwelir hynny ar waith eto yn yr albwm hwn. Fel yr awgryma’r teitl, mae yma ddal yn dynn ar brofiadau, emosiynau a theimladau ond caiff y cwbl eu tynnu’n rhydd a’u datgymalu hefyd. Daw’r teitl o’r gân ‘Ffair Wagedd’, sy’n ymddangos ar yr albwm. Fel yr esbonia Steve wrth egluro ei arwyddocâd:

‘Beth bynnag mae’r teitl yn ei olygu i chi, wel dyna ydi’r ystyr. Byddwch chi’n gwybod yn well na mi be’ mae’r teitl yn ei olygu ar ôl ichi wrando ar y caneuon. Chi sy’n agor y drws wrth wrando, toes gennyf i ddim goriad iddo. Ond wrth gwrs mae gen i fy syniadau fy hun amdano hefyd. Dros y blynyddoedd dwi wedi sylwi ar un patrwm arbennig mewn bywyd. Yn ein calonnau ’dan ni i gyd am afael yn dynn yn y pethau ’dan ni’n eu caru – partner, cariad, babi, ffrind, ci, mam a thad, iechyd da, rhyw dynerwch, rhyw deimlad braf, dyddiau da llawn hwyl, y nosau tawel arbennig, llawn sêr. A ’dan ni i gyd wedi teimlo’r golled yn hegar iawn pan mae’r pethau ’ma yn darfod, neu’n tynnu’n rhydd, neu’n cael eu tynnu’n rhydd oddi wrthon ni, neu’n gollwng eu gafael arnon ni. Mae pawb yn gwybod am hyn – bydd pawb yn ei brofi yn hwyr neu’n hwyrach – tydi o ddim yn beth cymhleth. Ond dwi’n dallt ac yn teimlo y patrwm yma cymaint yn fwy ar ôl ei brofi llawer o weithiau. Dwi’n meddwl bod nifer o’r caneuon wedi codi o’r profiadau hynny. Ond mae’n ddigon posibl bydd pobl eraill yn dallt y caneuon a’r teitl yn llawer gwell na mi, fel dwi di profi cymaint o weithiau o’r blaen.’

Steve Eaves:
Fel Ces i Ngeni i'w Wneud

Steve Eaves Fel Ces i Ngeni i'w Wneud

12 years since the release of Moelyci - an album which is considered a Welsh classic – Steve Eaves, and his band ‘Rhai Pobl’ (Some People), are back with a new album Y dal yn dynn, y tynnu’n rhydd (The tight hold, the pull free)

The album is a collection of individual songs all inspired by various particular ideas or feelings. In Steve’s own words: “Only after composing numerous individual songs do I think which ones ‘relate’ to one another in terms of themes, nuance, and the feelings embedded in them. And that is how the content of each album becomes clear to me. I never set out to ‘create an album’ – only to compose songs. The compilation process comes after.”

Steve is well known as one of the stalwarts of the Welsh music scene and has long established himself as a composer with an unquestionable talent to mould and marry lyrics perfectly to memorable tunes, and this album, once again, showcases this talent. As the title suggests, there is a tight hold on experiences, emotions and feelings, but they can also pull free and be dismembered. The title is derived from one of the songs on the album, ‘Ffair Wagedd’ (The Vainness Fair). As Steve explains in his analysis of the meaning of the title:

“What ever the title means to you, well that’s the meaning. You will know better than me what the title means after you’ve listened to the songs. You unlock the door by listening – I don’t have a key. Of course, I have my own theories as well. Over the years I have noticed one particular pattern in life. In our hearts, we all hold tight onto the things we love – partners, love, babies, friends, mothers and fathers, dogs, good health, a tenderness, warm feelings, fun filled days, peaceful starry nights. And we have all felt the wrenching loss when these are lost, or pull free, or are pulled free from us, or release their hold on us. We all know this – and are bound to experience it sooner or later – it’s not complicated. But I understand and feel the pattern so much more after experiencing it many times. I think that many of the songs have arisen from these experiences, but it’s possible that others will understand the songs and title much better than me, as I have experienced before.”

Yn dathlu ei bumed flwyddyn yn y byd adloniant Cymraeg a llwyddiant ei ganeuon bachog a hynod boblogaidd ar draws y wald fel 'Loris Mansel Davies', 'A470 Blues' a 'Ni'n Beilo Nawr' mae'r dyn o Gwmfelin Mynach yn ôl gydag albym newydd sy'n dod â sŵn newydd sbon i'r sîn canu gwlad ac adloniant gwledig yng Nghymru, dyma 'Cadw'r Slac yn Dynn'.

Braint yw cyhoeddi y bydd Label Recordiau I KA CHING yn ail-ryddhau EP chwedlonol Y Cyrff - ‘Yr Atgyfodi’ ar gyfer Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Sir Conwy 2019, a hynny union ddeg mlynedd ar hugain ers ei rhyddhau am y tro cyntaf yn Eisteddfod Llanrwst 1989.

Eisteddfod 1989, ac mae Y Cyrff yn crwydro’r maes yn dosbarthu copïau o’u record feinyl 12 modfedd ‘Yr Atgyfodi’. Roedd hi’n hollol amlwg mai yn eu tref enedigol y dylid ei rhyddhau ac yn y deng mlynedd ar hugain sydd wedi gwibio heibio, mae’r caneuon yr un mor berthnasol ac yn sgrechian i gael eu hail-ryddhau ar feinyl eto ar gyfer Eisteddfod 2019. Meddai Mark Roberts (Y Cyrff, Catatonia, Y Ffyrc, Sherbert Antlers, MR), prif-leisydd y band; “Yn fy marn i dyma uchafbwynt recordio’r band - pum cân sy’n llwyddo i drosglwyddo emosiwn amrwd y set byw ar feinyl”.

Yn sicr, does dim angen cyflwyniad i un o’r traciau’n enwedig - ‘Cymru, Lloegr a Llanrwst’ - cân sy’n gorlifo o hyder ac sy’n hudo’r gwrandawr i gyd-ganu’r gytgan enwog. Ac yna ceir pedwar trac anfarwol arall, ‘Y Boddi’, ‘Cofia Fi’n Ddiolchgar’, ‘Cerdda Efo Fi Mewn Distawrwydd’ ac ‘Weithiau/Anadl’. “Y gwir amdani yw bod pob un o’r caneuon ar y record yn dystiolaeth o’r angerdd a’r emosiwn oedd Y Cyrff yn gallu ei gyfleu yn eu perfformiadau byw gan gyrraedd uchafbwynt gyda’r gân olaf ‘Weithiau/Anadl’.” meddai Toni Schiavone. “Nid casgliad syml o ganeuon roc sydd gyda ni fama, ond mynegiant o ddwyster emosiynol dwfn.”

Ym mhob un o’r caneuon mae ‘na sefyllfaoedd, delweddau a geiriau grymus o gofiadwy. Dyma EP sy’n parhau i fod yn berthnasol ac mae ei hail-gyflwyno i’r byd yn ffordd o ddathlu cyfraniad amhrisiadwy Y Cyrff i sîn gerddorol Cymru a thu hwnt. Dyma atgyfodiad ‘Yr Atgyfodi’.

Y Cyrff:
Yr Atgyfodi

Y Cyrff Yr Atgyfodi

I Ka Ching Records are proud to announce the reissue on vinyl of the legendary EP from Y Cyrff - ‘Yr Atgyfodi’ - which will be released at the Eisteddfod Gendlaethol Sir Conwy 2019, exactly 30 years since the first issue was released at the Llanrwst Eisteddfod in 1989.

It’s at The Eisteddfod in 1989 that Y Cyrff were wandering around the site selling copies of the record on vinyl. It was completey natural to launch the original record in their birth town and 30 years later the songs still stand up in their own right and deserve to be celebrated again as the Eisteddfod returns to the area in 2019. Mark Roberts ( Y Cyrff, Catatonia, Y Ffyrc, Sherbert Antlers, Mr ) , the lead singer from the band says “In my opinion this record is the highlight of Y Cyrff's output - five songs which manage to capture the raw energy of our live shows”.

There is no need for an introduction to the tracks, especially ‘Cymru, Lloegr a Llanrwst’. The remaining four tracks on the EP are equally as breathtaking - ‘Y Boddi’, ‘Cofia Fi’n Ddiolchgar’, ‘Cerdda Efo Fi Mewn Distawrwydd’ and ‘Weithiau/Anadlu’. Toni Schiavone says “The truth is that all the songs on the record capture the emotion and energy that Y Cyrff created at live shows, encapsulated by the last song on the record ‘Weithiau/Anadl’. This isn’t a straight forward collection of rock songs, but an expression of a deep emotional energy unique to the band”.

This EP continues to be relevant to this day, and to be given the opportunity to reissue and reintroduce it to the world on vinyl is a celebration of Y Cyrff’s priceless contribution to the Welsh language music scene and beyond.

Michael Sheen said: “The Homeless World Cup in Cardiff this summer isn’t just an opportunity to change the lives of the 500 players from nearly 50 countries who compete on the football pitch. It’s also a huge opportunity to challenge the way we think about the issues surrounding homelessness, issues that affect us all - housing, mental health, criminal justice and inequality, just to name a few.

“We’ve created a programme of debates, talks and comedy for the Bevan Tent designed to stir the emotions, to make you laugh, cry, angry or excited, and to see how we can work together differently for a better future. Wales is famous for song and we can’t wait for our visitors from around the world to experience the live sounds of artists like Gwenno, James Dean Bradfield and Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, and for a local crowd to come along and help show our visitors a warm Welsh welcome. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.”

Rhyddheir sengl Mared, Dal ar y Teimlad, ar label I KA CHING ar Fehefin 14eg.

Rhyddhawyd EP byw cyntaf Mared yn Nhachwedd 2017, Noises in the Night, ac yna’r sengl, Dolig Dan y Lloer. Denwyd sylw Alan Raw ar BBC Introducing, Radio Leeds, gyda’r sengl Somber Man oddi ar yr EP.

Cyn cyrraedd rownd derfynol Cân i Gymru 2018 gyda’i chân, Byw a Bod, roedd Mared i'w hadnabod yn bennaf fel prif leisydd ac allweddellwr y band roc a phop, a chyn-ennillwyr Brwydr y Bandiau C2, Trŵbz. Gyda chariad tuag at gydweithio gyda artistiaid eraill, dechreuodd Mared greu enw fel artist unigol gyda’r deuawd electronic o Leeds, Denton Thrift. Mae ganddi brofiad o recordio a ysgrifennu ar y ddau drac, Fear in the Night a Something Real, sydd efo’i gilydd bellach wedi cyrraedd dros 700,000 o ffrydiau ar Spotify yn unig. Yn fwy diweddar gwelwyd hi’n cydweithio gyda’r band indie, Gwilym a gyda Band Pres Llareggub.

Mae dylanwadau Mared yn amrywio o Lucy Rose, Dodie, Susan Tedeschi, Melody Gardot, Courtney Marie Andrews, Maggie Rogers.

Mae’r sengl Dal ar y Teimlad yn awgrymu cyfnod trawsnewidiol mewn bywyd, o deithio yn gyson rhwng dinasoedd a mynd nôl at wreiddiau. Fel mae’r gân yn symud at y gytgan mae gobaith yn ymddangos, yn gwthio’r gwrandawr i ddal ar deimlad er mwyn dringo a chyrraedd yr amcan nesaf. Datgelai’r pennillion ein anallu i ganiatau newid, ac i adael pobl ac atgofion fynd mewn lleoliadau gwahanol, er mwyn symud ymlaen.

Mared Dal ar y Teimlad

Mared’s debut single Dal ar y Teimlad will be released on I KA CHING records on 14th of June.

Dal ar y Teimlad, literally translating to Hold onto the Feeling, captures a blurry stage in life which seems to be going nowhere.

Mared released a live 4 track EP back in November 2017, all recorded and played by herself in one take. The debut single, Somber Man, gained the attention of BBC Introducing’s Alan Raw on BBC Radio Leeds. She has also been an energetic and passionate frontwoman for two albums with Welsh rock and pop band, Trŵbz.

Mared was recognised on BBC Radio Cymru from releasing a Christmas single, Dolig Dan y Lloer, to then earning a place in the final of Welsh National Song-writing competition, Cân i Gymru, 2018. Since then, her entry from for live televised final, Byw a Bod, has been played several times by various Radio Cymru DJs.

Mared’s solo debut was a feature on Leeds-based electronic duo, Denton Thrift’s track Fear in The Night. Her love for collaborating with them progressed to co-writing and recording Something Real, together reaching over 700,000 Spotify plays alone. Other collaborations include influential North Wales based brass band, Band Pres Llareggub, indie Welsh rock band Gwilym, and rock and blues Leeds-based, Sifaka.

Influences vary but include Lucy Rose, Dodie, Rhye, Susan Tedeschi, Melody Gardot, Courtney Marie Andrews & Maggie Rogers.

The song represents a transitional period in life, constantly of travelling between cities, work and going back to roots, unable to initiate change without letting things go to the past. As the song progresses, a sense of hope emerges where the troughs occasionally turn into peaks as beliefs and feelings are held onto. With strong imagery of nature, from climbing peaks to being dragged by the breeze, it marks the change and constant inner conflict in life, growing up in rural Wales, to following new paths in a city life.

Mae Papur Wal newydd gyhoeddi eu EP gyntaf 'Lle yn y Byd Mae Hyn?' ar label Libertino.

Ar ôl rhyddhau ei halbym 'Gwn Glân Beibl Budr' ym mis Rhagfyr 2018, mae'r albym amrwd ac ysbrydol wedi denu sylw yn rhyngwladol gydag adolygiadau gan the Guardian, RnR a From the Margins. Yn dilyn rhyddhau 'Gwn Glân Beibl Budr' aeth Lleuwen ar daith acwstig o gwmpas y capeli a ysbrydolwyd sawl cân oddi ar yr albym ac erbyn hyn, gallwn edrych ymlaen at ei thaith gyda'r band o gwmpas Theatrau Cymru. Yn ddiweddar enillodd ei chân 'Bendigeidfran' wobr am y gân werin Gymraeg orau yng Ngwobrau Gwerin Cymru ac mae'n bleser gan Sain a PYST gyhoeddi bod Ifan Dafydd wedi mynd ati i ailygymysu'r gân arbennig yma.

I'w phlant ysgrifennwyd 'Bendigeidfran' gan Lleuwen y bore wedi pleidlais Brexit ac erbyn hyn, mae'r enigma Cymreig, Ifan Dafydd wedi torri, tynnu a throi'r gân werin i gampwaith electroneg.

Mae'r ailgymysgiad yn enghraifft berffaith o waith Ifan Dafydd - curiadau anghyson a lleisiau sydd wedi'u gwthio cymaint fel nad ydych yn adnabod yr iaith nac ychwaith pwy sy'n canu. Ond bob hyn a hyn, gellir clywed llais nodweddiadol Lleuwen yn atseinio trwy guriadau a melodïau atmosfferig Ifan Dafydd.

Bydd y cyfuniad arbennig yma o waith Ifan Dafydd a Lleuwen ar gael ar holl blatfformau digidol arferol ar 10 Mai ar Recordiau Sain. Bydd cyfle i weld Lleuwen yn perfformio mewn theatrau dros Gymru ac rydym yn falch iawn o gyhoeddi heddiw y bydd Cywion Cranogwen a Tant yn ei chefnogi ar hyd y daith. Gweler dyddiadau byw isod.

Lleuwen + Dafydd Iwan:
Remix Newydd o'r gân Bendigreidfan

Lleuwen
Lleuwen + Ifan Dafydd- Bendigeidfran

After releasing her album 'Gwn Glân Beibl Budr' in December 2018, the raw and spiritual album has attracted international attention with reviews by the Guardian, RnR and From the Margins. Following the release of 'Gwn Glân Beibl Budr' (Clean Gun, Dirty Bible), Lleuwen went on an acoustic tour of the chapels which inspired many songs from the album and we can now look forward to her tour with her band around theatres in Wales. Her song 'Bendigeidfran' recently won an award for the best Welsh folk song at the Welsh Folk Awards and Sain and PYST are delighted to announce that Ifan Dafydd has remixed this special song.

'Bendigeidfran' is a post-Brexit song to her children about the return of Bendigeidfran from the Mabinogion (the oldest prose stories of Britain) asking him to lie across the the sea to bridge the gap between Britain and Europe. The Welsh enigma, Ifan Dafydd has chopped, pulled and transformed this folk song into an electronic masterpiece.

The remix is a perfect example of Ifan Dafydd's work - inconsistent beats and voices that have been pushed so much that you don't recongnize the language or who sings. But every now and then, Lleuwen's distinctive voice can be heard echoing through Ifan Dafydd's atmospheric world.

This special combination of Ifan Dafydd and Lleuwen's work will be available on all the usual digital platforms on 10 May on Sain Records. There will be an opportunity to see Lleuwen performing in theatres across Wales and we are delighted to announce today that Cywion Cranogwen and Tant will be supporting her along the way. See tour dates below.

Serol Serol yw’r ffenomena o Ddyffryn Conwy a gyflwynodd bop gofodol seicadelig i Gymru. Wedi ychydig o ddirgelwch ynghylch aelodau’r band, daeth i’r amlwg mai Mali Siôn a Leusa Rhys oedd y ddwy ofodwraig, gyda Llŷr Pari (Jen Jeniro / Palenco / Y Niwl) a George Amor (Omaloma / Sen Segur) yn dynn ar eu sodlau.

Mae eu sengl newydd sbon, ‘Pareidolia’ yn trafod y tueddiad o weld wynebau mewn gwrthrychau neu elfennau naturiol - ydyn nhw yno neu ddim? Unwaith eto, mae’r band wedi creu sain arallfydol, hypnotig a chynnes sy’n mynd â’r gwrandäwr i rywle arall. Bydd cyfle i glywed y sengl ar raglen Huw Stephens heno ar BBC Radio Cymru.

Dyma’r sengl gyntaf o dair a ryddheir gan Serol Serol cyn yr haf. Os yn ffan o’r sengl - cofiwch am eu halbwm gyntaf sy’n dwyn yr un enw â’r band, sydd ar eich platfformau cerddoriaeth ddigidol.

Serol Serol:
Pareidolia

SER0LSER0L
Serol Serol- Pareidolia

Serol Serol are the phenomenon from the Conwy Valley that introduced psychedelic space pop to Wales on their debut album 'Serol Serol'. After some mystery about the band members, it became clear that Mali Siôn and Leusa Rhys were the two astronauts, with Llŷr Pari (Jen Jeniro / Palenco / Y Niwl) and George Amor (Omaloma / Sen Segur) hot on their heels.

Their brand new single ‘Pareidolia’ is about the tendency to see faces in objects or natural elements - are they there or not? The band has created an other worldly, hypnotic and warm sound that takes the listener elsewhere.

This is the first single of three to be released by Serol Serol before the summer. If you're a fan of the single - check out their album 'Serol Serol', on all digital platforms now!

Ysgrifennwyd y sengl newydd 'Yn y Bôn' gan Elis Derby mewn amgylchiadau tebyg i'r sengl ddiwethaf 'Prysur yn Gneud Dim Byd', hynny yw, yn bored mewn fflat ym Manceinion ac yn awchu i ffeindio criw o bobl tebyg i gyflawni rhywbeth â'u hamser. Er hyn, mae'r band wedi cymryd cam i gyfeiriad mymryn yn wahanol i'r arfer; fymryn yn drymach. Wedi'i ddylanwadu'n drwm gan Velvet Underground a Nirvana bydd y sengl yn cael ei ryddhau ar label Elis Derby, Recordiau Hufen ar 17 Mai.

Elis Derby:
Yn y Bôn

Elis Derby- Yn y Bôn

Elis Derby's new single 'Yn y Bôn' was written in similar circumstances to his last single 'Prysur yn Gneud Dim Byd', after spending a weekend being bored in a flat in Manchester longing to find like-minded people that want to achieve something with their life. However, the band has taken a step in a slightly different direction to the norm; a slightly heavier direction. With influences ranging from Velvet Underground to Nirvana the new single will be released on Elis Derby's own label, Hufen Records on 17 May.

Dwy fil o blant, Mei Gwynedd ac un gân eiconig

Ar drothwy dyfodiad Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr Urdd i Gaerdydd a’r Fro eleni, mae’r Urdd wedi cyhoeddi bod fersiwn newydd o gân adnabyddus y mudiad, Hei Mistar Urdd, yn cael ei rhyddhau.

Comisiynwyd y cynhyrchydd, cyfansoddwr a’r canwr, Mei Gwynedd, i fynd ati i greu fersiwn newydd o’r gân ac mae’r recordiad newydd yn cynnwys lleisiau 2000 o blant ysgolion cynradd Caerdydd a’r Fro.

Meddai Mei am recordio’r fersiwn newydd:
“Mae wedi bod yn lot o hwyl, jest lot o hwyl! Mae wedi bod yn bleser gweithio hefo’r plant a maen nhw wedi mwynhau canu’r gân hefyd, felly mae’n grêt. Mae’n anrhydedd, yn fraint cael gweithio ar y gân achos dwi wedi tyfu i fyny hefo’r gân fy hun. Hefyd, mae’n grêt dod i’r ysgolion gwahanol ac mae’r plant yn gwybod y gân, gwybod y gytgan felly ‘di o ddim yn cymryd bron ddim iddyn nhw gydio ynddi a mwynhau a dawnsio a chanu.”

Mae’r gân wedi bod yn anthem i’r Urdd ers ei rhyddhau am y tro cyntaf yn 1977 a sawl cenhedlaeth o blant, erbyn hyn, yn gyfarwydd iawn â hi. I nifer, mae’n dwyn atgofion o ddisgos yn y gwersylloedd ac mae clywed y gytgan enwog bron yn ddieithriad yn codi gwên.

Roedd cyfansoddwr y gân eiconig, Geraint Davies, yn gweithio i Adran Eisteddfod yr Urdd yn Aberystwyth pan ofynnodd Wynne Melville Jones iddo ysgrifennu cân ar gyfer lansio cymeriad cartŵn Mistar Urdd. Dros ddeugain mlynedd yn ddiweddarach, mae’r gân yn parhau i fod yn rhan o hunaniaeth yr Urdd.

Roedd Geraint yn aelod o’r grŵp Hergest ac Emyr Wyn a disgyblion Ysgol Brynteg, Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr ac Ysgol Pont-y-gwaith yn y Rhondda ganodd y gân wreiddiol yn 1977. Ers hynny rhyddhawyd fersiynau gan y grŵp pop Cymraeg Cic (2002) a Rapsgaliwn (2011).

Gwahoddwyd Geraint i un o’r sesiynau recordio gyda Mei Gwynedd. Meddai:
“Dyw e ddim wedi ei newid lot fawr ond mae ‘na dinc modern iddi nawr, a ma’ ishe hynny ar ôl 40 mlynedd! Ond mae crynswth y gân yr un peth. Rwy’n synnu’n gyson bod y gân wedi para mor hir ac yn dal yn fyw i genhedlaeth ar ôl cenhedlaeth o blant. Roedd clywed am fersiwn newydd eto ohoni’n wefr ac yn achos y balchder rhyfedda’!”

Mei Gwynedd a Phlant Ysgolion Caerdydd a'r Fro- Hei Mistar Urdd

Two thousand children, Mei Gwynedd and one iconic song

As the Cardiff and the Vale Urdd National Eisteddfod 2019 approaches, the Urdd has announced a new recording of the youth organisation’s much-loved theme song, Hei Mistar Urdd.

Welsh producer, composer and singer Mei Gwynedd was commissioned to create a new version of the song which features the voices of 2000 children from primary schools around Cardiff and the Vale.

Mei describes working on the song: “Lots of fun, just a lot of fun! It’s been a pleasure to work with the children and they’ve enjoyed signing the song, so it’s great. It’s an honour to work on the song because I’ve grown up with Hei Mistar Urdd myself. It’s also great to go to all the different schools - the children know the song, they know the chorus and it barely takes any time for them to grasp it and enjoy, dance and sing!”

The anthemic song was first released in 1977 and soon became familiar to several generations of children. For many, it stirs memories of childhood discos and dances at the Urdd centres and inevitably raises a smile when heard.

The song was composed by Geraint Davies, who was working for the Urdd Eisteddfod in Aberystwyth when Mistar Urdd creator Wynne Melville Jones asked him to write a song for the launch of the now iconic Mistar Urdd mascot. Over forty years later, the song remains a firm part of the Urdd's identity.

Geraint was a member of the popular band Hergest with musician and actor Emyr Wyn and they and pupils from Brynteg School, Bridgend and Pont-y-Gwaith School in the Rhondda sang the original song in 1977. Since then, the song has been re-recorded by Welsh pop group Cic (2002) and S4C rapper Rapsgaliwn (2011).

Geraint was invited to one of the recording sessions with Mei Gwynedd. He said: “Mei hasn’t changed the song very much, but it does now have a modern twist, which was needed after over 40 years! But the essence of the song is still the same. I am constantly surprised that the song has lasted so long and that it still exists for generation after a generation of children. It was thrilling to hear the new version and prompted a real sense of pride in the song!”

Mae albwm Geraint Ffrancon 'Ewropa' yn cynnwys 27 trac, un ar gyfer pob un o'r gwledydd a fydd yn aros yn yr Undeb Ewropeaidd unwaith y bydd y DU wedi gadael.

Mae'n gysyniad syml, sydd i'w ddehongli orau gan y gwrandäwr. Mae rhai o'r traciau'n swnio'n gadarnhaol, eraill yn felancolaidd, ac eraill yn gwyro rhwng gobaith ac anobaith o fewn ychydig funudau.

Mae Ffrancon wedi treulio ei fywyd cyfan yn teithio i wahanol lefydd yn Ewrop, ac yn teimlo cysylltiad ddwfn ag Ewrop a'r cysyniad o fod yn Ewropeaidd. Mae wedi byw yn Sweden a'r Alban, wedi bod ar sawl wyliau hapus yn Ffrainc a Sbaen, ac wedi bod ag obsesiwn â ffilmiau arthouse Ewropeaidd a'r sîn feicio yn y cyfandir. Ei hoff wlad yn y byd yw Gwlad Belg - cwrw, Tintin, pêl-droed, techno, beiciau, Jacques Brel ... be gei di well?

"Pan ddigwyddodd y bleidlais, fel llawer o bobl creadigol, teimlais yn gryf bod angen i mi ymateb i'r achlysur hanesyddol hwn. Nid dicter na' chasineb oedd y prif emosiwn a deimlais, ond teimlad o golled a thristwch dwys iawn - bod hanes yn symud ymlaen ac yn fy ngadael i ar ôl. Mae 'na deimlad hiraethus iawn yn perthyn i'r caneuon ”

"Er gwaethaf yr holl ofid, dwi hefyd yn gweld 'Ewropa' fel albwm eithaf positif a dyrchafol. Yn dweud 'ffwcia ti' i bawb sydd eisiau gadael Ewrop, oherwydd allwn ni fyth adael Ewrop - ry'n ni'n rhan ohono ac fyddwn ni felly am byth (ac erbyn hyn, wedi'i gysylltu'n ffisegol drwy dwnnel y sianel). Mae gweddill Ewrop yn haws cyrraedd at nag erioed o'r blaen. Mae dylanwadau Ewropeaidd ym mhobman. Byddwn ni'n rhan o Ewrop am byth"

'France' - Dyma drac agoriadol yr albym. Mae'n gân dawel a digalon tu hwnt. Mae gen i gariad ddwfn tuag at Ffrainc a'r ffordd Ffrengig o fyw, ac maent wedi bod trwy bethau eithafol yn ddiweddar - pethau fel Bataclan a Nice - ac rwy'n credu daeth y digwyddiadau yma i'r amlwg yn y trac hwn. Rwy'n poeni'n arw am beth all ddigwydd i'r wlad yn y blynyddoedd nesaf, wrth gofio cryfder hir dymor yr asgell dde eithafol yno.

Ffrancon:
Ewropa

Ffrancon
Ffrancon- Ewropa

Geraint Ffrancon's album 'Ewropa' consists of 27 tracks, one for each of the countries that will remain in the European Union once the UK has left.

It's a simple concept that is best left open to interpretation by the listener. Some of the tracks sound positive, others deeply melancholic, and some veer between hope and hopelessness within a few short minutes.

Ffrancon has spent his whole life travelling to different places in Europe, and feels a deep affinity with Europe and the concept of being a European. He's lived in Sweden and Scotland, spent many happy holidays in France and Spain, and has at various times been obsessed with European arthouse movies and the continent’s cycling scene. His favourite country in the world is Belgium - beer, Tintin, football, techno, bikes, Jacques Brel... what's not to like?

"When the vote happened, like many creative people I felt strongly that I needed to respond to this historic occasion. The biggest emotion I felt wasn't anger or hatred, but a profound sense of loss and of pensive sadness - that history is moving on and is leaving me behind. There’s a nostalgic vibe to a lot of it.”

"Despite all the doom and gloom, I also see 'Ewropa' as quite a positive, uplifting album. A fuck you to all the people who want to leave Europe, because we can never leave it - we're a part of it and always will be (and these days are physically connected to the rest of it via the channel tunnel). The rest of Europe is easier to get to now than it’s ever been. European influences are everywhere. We'll always be European."

‘France’ - This is the opening track off the album. It’s really downbeat and depresses the hell out of me. I have a deep love of France and the French way of life, and they’ve gone through a lot of quite extreme stuff recently - things like the Bataclan and Nice - and I think that came through in this track. I’m very worried about what might happen to the country in the next few years, given the long term strength of the far right there.
