Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau: Geiriau Cân / Lyrics

Y gân enwocaf a mwyaf ysbrydoledig yw'r Anthem Genedlaethol. Mae'n cael ei chanu cyn gweithgareddau chwaraeon- mae'r holl dorf yn ymuno gyda'i gilydd i rannu eu llawenydd a’u balchder yn eu gwlad. Caeth ei hysgrifennu gan Evan James a'i fab James James o Bontypridd yn 1856.

The most famous and inspiring of Welsh songs is the National Anthem. Sung by Welsh teams before sporting events- the whole crowd joins together as one to share it's joy at being Welsh. It was written by Evan James and James James of Pontypridd in 1856.
Note that the original Welsh lyrics are written very concisely, and as a result translations into English do vary, don't rhyme and don't quite contain the power and passion of the original words. However, for Welsh learners, knowing the meaning and how the words are used in Welsh life allows for a greater understanding and meaning of the song than someone without that exposure to the language.

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad,
Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.
The old land of my fathers is dear to me,
Land of bards and singers, famous men of renown;
Her brave warriors, very splendid patriots,
For freedom they shed their blood.
Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
My country, my country, I am faithful to my country.
While the sea is a wall to the pure, most loved land,
O may the old language endure.
